Boca Da Valeria, Brazil Information Language and Currency Boca Da Valeria, Brazil Port Reviews The official language of Brazil is Portuguese and the currency is the Brazilian Real. However, U.S. dollars are widely accepted. Be sure to have an ample supply of small bills to make exact change.
Boca da Valeria is an Indian village that fronts the Amazon. While the idea is to show cruise passengers how the local Indians live, my impression is that the residents of Boca da Valeria and their surrounding neighbors don't resemble anything like what the Indians on the Amazon might live like. I came away saddened by the visit.
The residents of Boca da Valeria basically are using their children to earn an income from cruise passengers. They dress them up so that the tourists will take their pictures and pay them. Those children that are not dressed up are assigned to passengers as escorts holding their hands as they walk around the village.
Boca da Valeria enjoys tropical weather year around with temperatures between 75 and 90 degrees. It can be hot and humid. Be sure to take lots of sunscreen and wear a hat and limit your time in the direct sun based on the amount of exposure that you have had prior to arriving in Boca da Valeria. Boca da Valeria receives a good amount of rain year around, so having a small umbrella is advisable
Ships anchor outside of Boca da Valeria and tender into the tender wharf.
Be sure to bring you camera on the tender ride because the is a very distinct line where the waters of the Valeria River meet the Amazon. It is amazing how the two rivers remain separate for miles before finally blending into muddy water.
The tender wharf is located right in the middle of Boca da Valeria.
As soon as you leave the tender wharf you will see many kiosks selling arts, crafts and souvenirs.
There are a good number of kiosks offering many collectible arts and crafts. The prices are good and you are doing the people of Boca da Valeria a favor by making a purchase.
Exploring Boca da Valeria is about all there is to do at this port. It won't take long and it is interesting. If I were to ever return to the port again, I would make it a point to bring things for the children. Baseball caps, tee shirts, books, colored pencils, crayons, coloring books, yo-yos and things of an educational nature.
You will get one last chance to make a purchase when your tender gets back to the ship, as many canoes will approach the tender trying to sell you stuff one last time. Is there anything of “Don’t Miss” quality? Not at this port Are there any great restaurants or bars? None
